Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
